5. What is the difference in being a Freight Broker or a Freight Broker Agent?
A freight broker assumes all legal and financial responsabilities for the movement of cargo. They have to met the requirements under FMCSA Guidelines, all legal requirements (Authority, Bond, BOC-3) to legally operates as a property broker in the United States.
A freight agent serves as an independent contractor for a freight brokerage but serves in the same capacity. Typically freight agents will receive a commission of the profit from every load. The agent in return does not assume any responsability for insurance, freight broker authority, claims or collections of freight bills.
6. Can I work from home?
Yes! In fact, in starting your business it is recommended that you start from a home office to keep your expenses low while you grow and expand your business.
7. What do I need to get started?
The following will be required for either the broker or the agent startup:
1. Internet access (DSL if possible)
2. A fairly fast computer.
3. A fax machine if you do not own one consider one of the 4-1 machines. Office Depot and other supply stores will run specials on acceptable units.
8. Can i really become a freight broker today?
